At a presentation in the Town Hall Elvis’ badge was awarded for helping to promote the town through his interest in the Reliant Motor Company, organizing the Reliant vehicle display each year at the Tamworth Heritage Weekend (2005-2014) and for his photography (another of his hobbies). Cllr Kingstone presented a slide to those present stating:
Elvis Payne
- A Reliant fanatic and collector
- Extensively published with works on Reliant and avid local history fan
- Supported heritage day
- Photographer extraordinaire
- Promotes Tamworth far and wide in a positive way
Whilst working on his book, “The Reliant Motor Company”, Elvis Payne was also honored to get a letter from Buckingham Palace in which HRH The Princess Royal (who wrote a foreword for his book, “The Reliant Motor Company”) passed on her congratulations for the award. In total, over 300 badges were awarded to Tamworth citizens.
Cllr Kingstone ceased to be Mayor on May 26th 2015 and there were no further BE-Tamworth awards until 2019 when Cllr Kingstone became Mayor of Tamworth for the second time. On this occasion Elvis’ son Harvey received a BE-Tamworth award for helping to promote Tamworth via his photography. At the ceremony the Mayor informed the audience that I was awarded a BE-Tamworth award in 2015 and again mentioned the work I do in researching Reliant history, now as part of the Reliant Motor Club.
